Cadmium-113 Information

Cadmium is a soft bluish metal belonging to group 12 of the periodic table. It is extremely toxic even in low concentrations. This element chemically similar to zinc, but lends itself to more complex compounds. Cadmium was discovered by F. Stromeyer in 1817. Cadmium has 38 isotopes. 8 of them are naturally occurring, 2 of which are stable.

Cadmium is used in nickel-cadmium batteries. Also it is used in electroplating steel and in the manufacture of bearings. Its compounds are found in paint pigments and a wide variety of intense colors. Boiling cadmium gives off a weird, yellow-colored vapor that is poisonous.
