Ruthenium-96 Information

Ruthenium is a hard white metallic transition element. It is found with platinum, and it is used as a catalyst in some platinum alloys. Ruthenium dissolves in fused alkalis, and it is not attacked by acids. This element reacts with halogens and oxygen at high temperatures. Ruthenium was isolated by K.K. Klaus in 1844. Ruthenium has 34 isotopes, 7 of them are stable and naturally occurring.

Ruthenium is used to harden platinum and palladium. Aircraft magnetos use platinum alloy with 10% of ruthenium.
