Silicon is a metalloid element belonging to group 14 of the periodic table. It is the second most abundant element in the Earth's crust, making up 28% of it by weight. It is chemically less reactive than carbon. Silicon was identified by Lavoisier firstly in 1787 and was isolated by Berzelius firstly in 1823.
